Hi all, I'm ashpags! I've been blogging and reading blogs for way too long, but this will be my first time writing about science and academia. I read quite a few sciency-type blogs, so hopefully my posts won't be too terribly boring.
I am working on a Ph.D. in observational astronomy, studying recurrent novae in general and U Scorpii (U Sco) in particular. For an explanation of novae, you can check out the
Wikipedia entry and the
AAVSO summary.

The AAVSO also has up-to-date information on the
2010 eruption of U Sco. That's what I've been spending most of my time on lately, looking at the behavior of the system in eruption over many different wavelengths.
I'm also very interested in the sociology of science, particularly the role of women in astronomy and science in general. If there's interest, I can write about that, too.
Thanks Ashley. I am also very interested in the role of women in science and especially physics and astronomy. I would definitely follow your posts on this subject eagerly!
ReplyDelete@Azadeh - Sounds good! Until I can get around to writing something, you can check out FSP and WiA in the blogroll for interesting discussions!
